Adam Zampa Joins Surrey for T20 Blast Campaign, Set to Feature in Four Matches

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has signed with Surrey County Cricket Club for four matches in the ongoing T20 Blast, the club confirmed on Friday. Zampa is set to bolster Surreyโ€™s spin department as they aim to maintain momentum in the competitionโ€™s group stages.

Zampa will make his return to English domestic cricket on Sunday, July 6, in a high-profile double-header against Essex at the Kia Oval. He will then travel with the team to face Gloucestershire in Bristol, before returning to the Oval for a Friday night clash under the lights against Glamorgan on July 11. His initial stint will conclude with another double-header fixture, this time against group leaders Somerset on July 13.

Should Surrey qualify for the knockout stages, Zampa will remain available for both the quarter-finals and Finals Day.

Zampa, widely regarded as one of the most effective T20 spinners globally, brings a wealth of experience to Surrey. He is Australiaโ€™s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, with 117 scalps, and was the first Australian to surpass the 100-wicket mark in the format. His international pedigree includes a T20 World Cup title in 2021 and a 50-over World Cup victory in 2023.

Across his T20 career, Zampa has claimed 363 wickets in 298 matches at an impressive average of 21.72. He has played in all major global leagues, including the IPL, Big Bash League, and The Hundred, where he was instrumental in back-to-back title wins for the Oval Invincibles in 2023 and 2024.

Welcoming Zampa to the squad, Surreyโ€™s High Performance Cricket Advisor Alec Stewart said, โ€œAdam Zampa is one of the finest T20 spinners in world cricket and I am excited to welcome him to Surrey for the T20 Blast. He brings a wealth of experience and technical skills on the pitch and great character off it.โ€

Surrey, led by Sam Curran, are currently in fine form. The team recently clinched a last-ball thriller against Kent, courtesy of a winning boundary from Chris Jordan, followed by dominant home victories over Sussex and Middlesex, the latter in front of a packed Kia Oval crowd.

Zampa expressed his excitement about joining the squad, saying, โ€œI cannot wait to get going for Surrey and to play in front of the Kia Oval crowd once again. Itโ€™s one of the great grounds in the world to play the game and I know how much playing for Surrey means to the lads, so I am looking forward to seeing what itโ€™s all about.โ€
