South Africa’s fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series and the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan due to a toe injury. The announcement comes ahead of the second T20I at SuperSport Park, scheduled for Friday, December 13.
Nortje sustained the injury during training ahead of the first T20I on December 10, where he missed the match due to a contusion on his left big toe. Subsequent scans conducted the following day revealed a fracture. South Africa won the opening match by 11 runs.
In Nortje’s absence, uncapped all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem has been called up as his replacement for the remaining two T20Is. The final two matches of the T20I series are scheduled for December 13 and 14, followed by the three-match ODI series from December 17 to 22.
Cricket South Africa released a statement confirming that Nortje will consult with a specialist orthopaedic surgeon to determine the required recovery period.
