Australia to play extra Test against West Indies in 2025

Australia is reportedly set to add an extra Test match to their 2025 tour of the West Indies, making it a three-match series for the Frank Worrell Trophy. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Cricket Australia has expressed a willingness to help revive Test cricket in the Caribbean by privately agreeing to the additional fixture.

The series will mark Australia’s first Test tour of the West Indies since 2015 when Michael Clarke’s side secured victories in both matches in Roseau (Dominica) and Kingston (Jamaica). Since then, Australia has not played Test cricket in the Caribbean.

The upcoming series could feature a pink-ball Test, as per the report, with potential venues including Grenada and Jamaica. While Cricket West Indies (CWI) has yet to confirm the tour details, it is expected to last approximately a month.

Earlier in 2024, the West Indies made headlines during their two-match Test series in Australia by claiming a historic victory in Brisbaneโ€”their first Test win on Australian soil since 1997. The upcoming series promises to build on this resurgence and renew a storied rivalry.

Australia is currently competing in the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against India. After a crushing 295-run defeat in the Perth Test, Australia has made a strong comeback in the second Test in Adelaide, putting themselves in a commanding position. The five-match series, which began on November 22, 2024, will conclude on January 3, 2025.
