Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed hope for “better decisions” regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy despite the International Cricket Council (ICC) deferring a key meeting initially scheduled for Saturday. Speaking during his visit to the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground, Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in the ongoing discussions.
While refraining from sharing specifics, Naqvi assured that the PCB would not disappoint the nation and would provide details once a final decision is reached. “The ICC will make the decision, and it will announce it,” he stated, dismissing certain media reports as “not based on facts.”
The PCB chairman emphasized the need for the ICC to ensure fairness and consistency across all cricket boards. “If the ICC progresses, global cricket progresses. Any shortcomings in the ICC’s decisions would negatively impact cricket worldwide. However, I remain hopeful for improvement,” Naqvi added.
The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be hosted by Pakistan in February. However, India’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan has sparked a dispute over the tournament’s venue. Recent discussions have reportedly led to a breakthrough, with Pakistan and India agreeing to play their matches at neutral venues during ICC tournaments hosted by either nation. This hybrid arrangement is being finalized alongside the tournament schedule.
Discussions involving the ICC, Pakistan, and India are addressing key logistical and operational challenges under the proposed hybrid model. Stakeholders have made significant progress, with sources indicating that unresolved issues are nearing a conclusion. An ICC announcement is anticipated soon, following the resolution of matters at the executive level.
Naqvi reaffirmed that the PCB is making every effort to secure favorable outcomes for Pakistan and international cricket. He expressed optimism about the direction of the discussions, highlighting Pakistan’s proactive role in negotiations.
