The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Sunday revealed its squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of India and the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. The India tour, which includes three ODIs and five T20Is, will begin in January 2025, followed by the Champions Trophy in February and March.

Experienced batter Joe Root makes a return to England’s ODI squad after last appearing in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Root, with 171 ODIs under his belt, has scored 6,522 runs at an impressive average of 47.60, including 16 centuries and 39 fifties.
Notably absent from the squads is all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is recovering from a left hamstring injury sustained during England’s third Test against New Zealand earlier this month.
Both white-ball squads are captained by Jos Buttler and include a mix of seasoned players and emerging talent. Joe Root is included only in the ODI and Champions Trophy squads, while 20-year-old spinner Rehan Ahmed features exclusively in the T20I lineup.
England will arrive in India on January 17, with the T20I series kicking off on January 22 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The detailed itinerary is as follows:
T20I Series
- 1st T20I: January 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata
- 2nd T20I: January 25 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
- 3rd T20I: January 28 at Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot
- 4th T20I: January 31 at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune
- 5th T20I: February 2 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
ODI Series
- 1st ODI: February 6 at VCA Stadium, Nagpur
- 2nd ODI: February 9 at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack
- 3rd ODI: February 12 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
England’s preparations for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will be boosted by the experience gained during the India tour. The Champions Trophy is scheduled for February and March 2025, with the complete schedule set to be announced by the ICC in the coming months.
