England’s Reece Topley Fined for Code of Conduct Breach During T20I Against West Indies

England fast bowler Reece Topley has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first T20 International against the West Indies in Barbados. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Topley breached Article 2.2 of the Code, which pertains to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

The incident occurred as Topley, while walking up the players’ pavilion staircase during England’s fielding session, struck a chair against a handrail in frustration. Alongside the fine, one demerit point has been added to Topley’s disciplinary record. This is his first offence within the past 24 months.

Topley admitted to the offence and accepted the penalty, which was proposed by match referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees, negating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was filed by on-field umpires Leslie Reifer and Zahid Bassarath, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite, and fourth umpire Deighton Butler.

Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, with the maximum penalty reaching 50 percent of the player’s match fee, alongside one or two demerit points.
