India’s Rishabh Pant and England’s Ben Duckett have surged to career-best positions in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings, following standout performances in the thrilling first Test at Headingley. The Test, which saw England chase down a challenging 371-run target to win by five wickets, has had a significant impact on the rankings landscape across formats.
Pant, who became only the second wicketkeeper in Test history—after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower—to score twin centuries in a single match, moved up one spot to seventh in the Test batter rankings. His scores of 134 and 118 not only reinforced his status as a game-changing batter but also earned him his highest career rating to date.
Meanwhile, Ben Duckett, who was named Player of the Match for his scores of 62 and a commanding 149 in the fourth innings, climbed five places to reach eighth in the updated list—his personal best. Duckett’s aggressive approach played a pivotal role in England’s successful chase and earned praise across the cricketing fraternity.
Other notable movers include England’s Ollie Pope, who rose three places to 19th after a valuable contribution in the middle order, and debutant Jamie Smith, whose unbeaten 44 in the final innings helped seal the win. Smith’s effort saw him leap eight spots to 27th in the batter rankings. India captain Shubman Gill also made significant strides, climbing five spots to 20th after his fluent 147 in the first innings.
At the top of the Test batter rankings, England’s Joe Root retains his No.1 position, with teammate Harry Brook holding second place, keeping England’s dominance intact in the top tier.
Elsewhere, the drawn Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Galle saw several players make notable gains. Mushfiqur Rahim’s commanding 163 lifted him 11 spots to 28th, while Najmul Hossain Shanto’s twin centuries propelled him up 21 places to 29th—both achieving significant career milestones.
On the bowling front, India’s Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the Test rankings following another five-wicket haul in the Headingley Test. England captain Ben Stokes also enjoyed a boost, moving up three places to fifth in the all-rounders’ rankings after contributing with both bat and ball.
The weekly update also reflected changes in the T20I rankings following the recently concluded tri-series involving Scotland, Nepal, and the Netherlands in Glasgow. Dutch batter Michael Levitt rose 16 places to 14th in the T20I batter rankings, while Scotland’s Brandon McMullen climbed 20 rungs to joint 38th. Spinner Mark Watt advanced to 38th among T20I bowlers, and Nepal’s Lalit Rajbanshi made the biggest leap, moving up 29 places to 54th after an impressive four-wicket haul during the series.
The latest updates from the ICC rankings showcase the shifting momentum in international cricket, as both established stars and emerging talents continue to leave their mark across formats.
