Renowned power-hitter Azam Khan is gearing up for the third season of the International League T20 (ILT20), expressing excitement for another opportunity to shine with the Desert Vipers. Azam played a crucial role for the team in the previous season, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot, and is now ready to bring his trademark aggressive style to the field once again.
“I’m really excited for the next season,” said Azam in a release from ILT20. “I had a great season last year, which brings the same excitement to go out and play for the Desert Vipers again. There will be new challenges, but we’ll focus on executing on the ground and winning for the team.”
Azam Khan’s impact in ILT20 Season 2 was highlighted by his record-breaking performance, registering the fastest half-century in the tournament’s history. He reached the milestone in just 18 balls, hammering five fours and four sixes to lead the Vipers to victory against the Gulf Giants. Reflecting on his approach, he said, “Cricket is a game that brings both success and failure. For me, it’s about going out there and dominating the other side. That’s always my mindset.”
The 25-year-old has become a fan favorite, with crowds echoing chants of “Azam, Azam” during his thrilling batting displays. Speaking about the support, Azam shared, “It’s an amazing feeling to hear the crowd roaring. It’s a great adrenaline rush, and I’ll do my best to bring the same excitement for the fans this year as well.”
Azam also emphasized the intense competition within ILT20, noting the high quality of players across all teams. “With nine international players in each team, it becomes very tough for players to perform. Even the guys sitting on the bench are world-class players,” he remarked.
Highlighting the league’s role in nurturing UAE cricket talent, Azam called it a golden opportunity for local players. “Sharing the dressing room with legends and greats of the game is invaluable. They can learn, implement the feedback, and use it to grow in their careers,” he said.
The Desert Vipers will kick off their ILT20 campaign on January 12, facing the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in an away game in Abu Dhabi. Azam urged fans to show their support, promising full commitment on the field. “Just come out and support us. We’ll try to win the tournament this year. I can’t promise that, but I’ll make sure that whenever I step onto the ground, I’ll give my 100%,” he assured.
The third season of the ILT20 is scheduled to run from January 11 to February 9, 2025, promising another exciting chapter for cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
