The Indian women’s cricket team is set to embark on a five-match T20I series against England, beginning Saturday, June 28, with the historic goal of clinching their first-ever bilateral T20I series win over the hosts. The opening match will be held at Trent Bridge, followed by fixtures at Bristol, The Oval, Old Trafford, and Edgbaston.
This high-stakes contest comes as India return to T20I action for the first time in 2025. Ranked third in the ICC Women’s T20I standings, just behind England, the Indian side will be keen to use this series as a springboard ahead of the T20 World Cup, which England will host next year.
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a strong Indian squad featuring seasoned players like Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Renuka Thakur. Shafali Verma rejoins the squad after an impressive Women’s Premier League (WPL) campaign, where she tallied 304 runs at a blistering strike rate of 152.76.
The series also marks a significant moment for emerging talents, with Kranti Gaud, Nallapureddy Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay, and all-rounder Sayali Satghare earning maiden T20I call-ups, underlining India’s focus on nurturing depth ahead of the global tournament.
England, led by Nat Sciver-Brunt, come into the series on a high after a dominant 3-0 whitewash of West Indies. The return of world No. 1 T20I bowler Sophie Ecclestone strengthens an already formidable lineup that includes Tammy Beaumont, Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, and Issy Wong.
Despite their recent rise, India face an uphill challenge. England lead the head-to-head record convincingly, with 22 wins in 30 T20Is. India have won just eight, though their first-ever T20I victory came against England back in 2006. The last bilateral series between the two sides, played in Mumbai in 2023, saw England edge out India 2-1.
