India Thrashes Australia by 295 Runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy Opener

India started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a massive 295-run win over Australia in Perth on Monday, setting a strong tone for the series. This remarkable victory is one of Indiaโ€™s biggest overseas triumphs.

This is Indiaโ€™s second-largest win by runs against Australia, after a 320-run win in Mohali in 2008. Itโ€™s also one of Indiaโ€™s best wins outside Asia, joining milestones like their 318-run victory against the West Indies in 2019.

India won the toss and batted first but managed just 150 runs. Australia struggled even more, getting all out for 104, with Jasprit Bumrah taking 5/30. In their second innings, India dominated, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswalโ€™s brilliant 161 and Virat Kohliโ€™s unbeaten 100. They declared at 487/6, setting Australia a target of 534.

Australiaโ€™s chase was shaky from the start, ending at 238 despite Travis Headโ€™s fighting 89. Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took three wickets each, sealing the win for India.

Bumrah shone with eight wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul. Jaiswalโ€™s 161 and Kohliโ€™s century boosted Indiaโ€™s batting. Debutant Harshit Rana also impressed with three first-innings wickets.

Bumrah also praised the preparation and belief of the team. โ€œFaith in the process and abilities is what made the difference,โ€ he added.

Bumrah highlighted Yashasvi Jaiswalโ€™s brilliant 161 as his best Test innings so far, showing great patience and maturity. He also praised Virat Kohliโ€™s unbeaten 100, saying, โ€œI never felt he was out of form.โ€
