India’s Suryakumar Yadav Undergoes Successful Surgery in Germany, Expected to Return for Bangladesh T20Is

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has undergone successful surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany, and is now on the road to recovery. The 34-year-old confirmed the development through a post on his official Instagram account, expressing gratitude for the smooth procedure and optimism about his return.

“Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back,” Suryakumar shared with his followers.

The dynamic right-hander, who last featured during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, has been absent from India’s ongoing five-match Test series in England, which concludes on August 4. He is expected to make his international return later in the month, leading the T20I side during the white-ball tour of Bangladesh starting August 26 in Chattogram.

Suryakumar enjoyed a sensational IPL 2025 campaign, playing a pivotal role in taking Mumbai Indians to the playoffs. He broke records with 16 consecutive scores of 25 or more—setting a new global benchmark—and amassed 717 runs, the most ever by a Mumbai Indians batter in a single season and the highest by any non-opener in IPL history.

With India transitioning into a new era following their T20 World Cup triumph in June 2024, Suryakumar was appointed as T20I captain after the retirement of senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja from the format. Under his leadership, India’s T20 side has adopted a fearless, attacking approach, posting consistently high totals. One of the standout performances came in October 2024 when India registered 297 against Bangladesh—the second-highest team total in T20I history.

The upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh includes three ODIs and three T20Is and will be crucial for India’s preparations ahead of a packed international calendar. With Suryakumar expected to return to lead the side, all eyes will be on his recovery progress and his comeback on the international stage.
