Pakistan looks to avoid whitewash in final T20 against South Africa today

  • by

The third and final T20I between Pakistan and South Africa is set to take place today at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, with the hosts leading the series 2-0. Scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM local time (4:00 PM GMT), the match offers Pakistan a chance to avoid a clean sweep and end the series on a high note, while South Africa will aim for a comprehensive victory.

The Proteas come into this match on the back of a thrilling 7-wicket win in the second T20I at Centurion, where Reeza Hendricks’ maiden T20I century powered them to a series-clinching triumph. Chasing a formidable target of 207 set by Pakistan, Hendricks crafted a sensational 157-run partnership with Rassie van der Dussen to dismantle Pakistanโ€™s bowling attack. H

endricksโ€™ knock of 101 not only anchored the chase but also showcased his composure under pressure. Van der Dussen sealed the win in style with a six, with three balls to spare, ensuring South Africaโ€™s first bilateral T20I series win since August 2022.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan had set a competitive total of 206/5, thanks to a solid start by Babar Azam (64) and Saim Ayub (48). Despite early setbacks, the pair built a strong foundation, and a late surge by Ayub and Irfan Khan, who added 73 runs off just 32 balls, pushed the visitors to an imposing total. However, their efforts fell short against South Africaโ€™s stellar batting display.

For Pakistan, this match serves as an opportunity to address their inconsistencies, particularly in the bowling department, which struggled to contain South Africaโ€™s middle-order. Captain Mohammad Rizwan and key players like Babar Azam will need to rally the team to avoid a whitewash.

On the other hand, South Africa will look to build on their momentum and end the series on a dominant note. With the likes of Reeza Hendricks and Van der Dussen in fine form, the Proteasโ€™ batting lineup appears well-equipped to continue their winning run.

Following this T20 series, both teams will shift their focus to the 50-over format, with the first ODI scheduled for December 17 in Paarl. The highly anticipated Test series will commence on December 26, adding further excitement to the tour.
