PCB Chief Reaffirms Commitment to Hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has reiterated Pakistan’s determination to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, asserting that all decisions will prioritize the interests of Pakistan cricket. His comments come amidst India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, citing security concerns.

Speaking at a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi emphasized the PCB’s clear stance on the matter. “Our position is very clear. We are committed to hosting the Champions Trophy, and whatever happens, it will be based on equality. We have communicated this clearly to the ICC,” he stated.

Earlier this month, the PCB requested clarification from the ICC regarding India’s decision not to participate in the event in Pakistan. The PCB has consistently maintained that it is unacceptable for Pakistan to play cricket in India without reciprocal arrangements. Naqvi urged the ICC to uphold fairness among member nations.

“India needs to provide written objections if they have any concerns about traveling to Pakistan. So far, no discussions about a hybrid model have taken place, and we are not prepared to accept one,” Naqvi clarified.

He also expressed optimism regarding Jay Shah, who is expected to assume the top ICC post in December, hoping he would prioritize the interests of global cricket over national affiliations. “When someone takes such a role, they should think about the benefit of the ICC and cricket as a whole,” Naqvi said.

The ICC is set to hold a virtual meeting on November 29 to discuss the Champions Trophy 2025, and the PCB has been in consultation with the Pakistan government on the issue. Despite the challenges, Naqvi remains hopeful for a resolution that aligns with Pakistan’s interests.

The Champions Trophy is tentatively scheduled for February 19 to March 2025, though the ICC has yet to finalize the dates or announce the official schedule.
