South Africa have announced a fresh-looking T20I squad led by Rassie van der Dussen for their upcoming tri-series in Zimbabwe, with selectors opting to blend experience with youth as part of early preparations for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The 34-year-old Van der Dussen, who has played 50 T20 Internationals, will lead a team that includes four uncapped players: Corbin Bosch, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Rubin Hermann, and Senuran Muthusamy. Their selection follows standout performances in domestic competitions, particularly in the 2025 edition of the SA20.
Pretorius, a dynamic top-order batter, was the top scorer in SA20 2025, amassing 397 runs at a blazing strike rate of 166. Hermann, a consistent performer behind the stumps, impressed with 333 runs at an average of 41.43. Bosch, already capped in ODIs and Tests, was instrumental in MI Cape Townโs SA20 title win, while Muthusamy adds value as a spin-bowling all-rounder.
The squad also sees the return of promising talents Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, and Gerald Coetzee after recovering from injury layoffs. They join a potent bowling group that includes experienced pacer Lungi Ngidi, who recently featured in South Africaโs ICC World Test Championship Final victory, and teenage pace prospect Kwena Maphaka.
Head coach Shukri Conrad, who will be overseeing his first T20I series since taking on the full-time role across all formats, emphasized the importance of this series in shaping the teamโs long-term plans. โWith several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates opportunities for others to step in and show what they can offer,โ Conrad said. โThis is a chance for us to build depth and see how these players cope with international demands.โ
The squad will convene in Pretoria on July 9 for a two-day training camp before departing for Harare on July 11. South Africa begin their tri-series campaign against hosts Zimbabwe on July 14.
